From his early days in racing to building World Class, Award Winning Street Rods, DICK "MAGOO" MEGUGORAC has literally done it all ! He's one of the Industries longest-running Legends.
Dick pioneered many innovations during his career, including the use of Teflon for suspension cushioning , and complete street rod build kits. But, one of his biggest challenges came when Ferrari Dealer, Brian Burnett, hired Dick to stuff a V-12 engine from a Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 between the rails of a Deuce Roadster.
Dick & his crew took-up that Herculian task and turned it into "THE DEUCARI"...which won the AMBR Award at the 1979 GNRS, and started a whole new concept of what you could install in a street rod...and ACTUALLY use on the STREET !
Dick, and his wife Lois, are old friends and since this was the first time we've been able to get together for a few years I wanted to get his history recorded so that I could share some of his great stories with you right here on the Hall Of Fame Legends Series.
At Darryl Starbird's 14th Annual Induction CeremoniesWeekend at the National Rod & Custom Car Hall Of Fame, after breakfast on a Sunday morning before we left for home, Dick & I sat down for a nice long Interview. The Deucari Story is one that I wanted to get his take on...BUT, then he almost topped that when he told me about a Cadillac Diesel-Install that he wasn't sure he wanted to do !! (Hmmm, I wonder: Should it have been called the "Deu-esel" ?? )
Dick "Magoo" Megugorac is one of the nicest, and most knowledgeable long-time Street Rodders/Builders that you'll ever have the privilege of meeting, and I'm proud to have him for a friend. JK
SPECIAL NOTE: The Deucari is now owned by Ed Hegarty and, yes, he DOES drive it !
