HALL OF FAMER/RIDLER AWARDS WINNER, CHUCK MILLER, was enlisted by the Hurst Performance Research Division to create not only the 4-4-2 based "Hurst Olds", but also, the dynamite AMC "Rambler Scrambler" !
While working for Hurst, he was privileged to not only meet and work with the beautiful LINDA VAUGHAN, but to build a Special Version of the Hurst Olds just for her. If you're new to the Car Culture, or, maybe have been on another Planet for the last few decades, and don't know about Linda then you've REALLY missed something !
Linda Vaughn was the "Poster Girl" for the Rod & Custom Industry during the 60's & 70's. Almost every teenage boy in America, every home-garage, every auto repair shop, every service station (remember when they were "Service Stations" ?) had a Linda Vaughn Poster hanging proudly on the wall.
Linda's Official Title was "Miss Hurst Golden Shifter", and she lived up to it day-in-day-out ! Appearances on TV, at every race track, at every automotive convention...Linda Vaughn was not only the official spokesperson for Hurst, but of a whole generation of hot rodders, funny car & dragstrip participants, and, car buffs everywhere !
In this exclusive Interview, Chuck not only discusses Linda, but the mighty-mite, take-all-comers, "Rambler Scrambler" ! This car was the "screamin' demon" that came after the 50's "Rambler Rebel", and, just before the Javelin and the AMX.
Only about 1,500 of these lightweight Scrambler's were produced, but pound-for-pound, they left their marks on dragstrips all over the country...and, at just under $3,000.00 a copy, were one of the least expensive ways to win a race !!
ON A PERSONAL NOTE: At the 2010 KKOA Lead Sled Spectacular in Salina, Kansas, I got to spend some quality time with Linda. She was a guest there, and was one of the nicest, most wonderful, ladies you'd ever want to meet ! Lots of fun...and mobbed by the crowd everywhere she went ! JK
