YOU KNOW HIM AS "JOHN MILNER" the driver of that cool Yellow Coupe in "American Grafitti", he's won Golden Globe Awards for both Movie & TV Roles, but, before his acting career took off, Paul Le Mat had a life that was full of action & adventure...on the other side of the camera !
He was born in New Jersey, eventually migrated to California attending colleges there, and Paul is always a great Interview subject, a true Fan Favorite at all of the car shows, cruises, and events he attends, and this time in a KKOA Lead Sled/Salina Interview we covered THREE Stories at one time:
1. During the Vietnam War, Paul served on a Martin P5M Marlin Sea Plane (Flying Boat) and, even though he's modest about his service to our Country, he was honored with a National Defense Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and a George Washington Honor Medal. AND, like ALL Veterans who have proudly served the U.S.A., he deserves our respect and our thanks.
2. Something else that I didn't know until the night before this Interview when Paul and I were hangin' out, was the fact that he had been a boxer ! Yep, Paul was a Welterweight fighter, won a couple of Amateur Titles in L.A., and was thinking about turning Pro but had his career cut short by a bad set of gloves...no joke !
3. Since his younger days, Paul has loved to travel and has spent lots of time in Europe. In this story he talks about a place he hasn't visited yet but wants to, and also tells me how he likes visitng and doing car shows in Sweden...a neat country with some very beautiful girls !
Paul Le Mat is just a super guy to spend time with, very well educated, can talk about many subjects, and has had a life filled with so many different facets to it that it truly is amazing. He's packed MANY lifetimes into one...and done 'em all very, very well. JK
