THE SCENARIO ISN'T ALL THAT UNUSUAL: Boy sees "American Graffiti", boy likes "American Graffiti", boy likes cars & lifestyle of "American Graffiti". BUT, here's where things change: a young LARRY GROBE is "The Boy", and that movie, those cars, and that lifestyle, start him on a path that changes his lifestyle forever !
VooDoo Larry is the "changeling" from "American Graffiti" that's become one of the new breed of "old school" kustomizers. You've seen his cars in Ol' Skool Rodz, Car Kulture DeLuxe, Kustoms Illustrated, Rod & Custom, and many other mags, as well as at car shows around the country. Larry travels hundreds of miles every year showing some of the fantastic work that he turns out from his shop.
MY OLD FRIEND Alan Mayes, Managing Editor of OSR/CKD, alerted me to Larry's work a few years ago, in fact, Alan profiles Voodoo Larry in his "OLD SCHOOL CUSTOMS" book from Page 142-149. He's also in Alan's "Custom Car Ideas" book.
SO when I got to the 30th Anniversary KKOA Leadsled in Salina and saw Larry pull-into the Host Motel parking lot in that beautiful, green, "VooDoo Idol" '46 Ford, I locked him into an Interview right away...so that I could share his info, expertise, and, background with all of our friends here on the HOF Legends Series.
VooDoo Larry is a great guy, loves to talk cars, loves to mingle with the crowd. and is lots of fun to hang with. Here he is with the legendary Gene Winfield...getting another well-deserved award ! (The "VooDoo Idol" that Larry built, was a Tribute to Gene's "Jade Idol".)
WE TALKED CARS FOR SURE, but I wanted to find out where Larry's "roots" were, and how he began putting rods & kustoms together, so in this from our session we go back to the beginning...the early years. Enjoy ! JK

NOTE: "OLD SCHOOL CUSTOMS" IS a fantastic book that has in-depth profiles with 13 of the top car builders in the country !
With names like Starbird, Hines, Winfield, and, Huff, in the grouping you can't go wrong. AND, as I mentioned above, VooDoo Larry is featured in the mix on Pages 142 to 149.
