Custom Builder/Restorer Mark Moriarity, was inducted into Darryl Starbird's National Rod & Custom Hall of Fame on February 15th this year , and then, on July 26th of this year he was also inducted into the KKOA Hall of Fame. I was privileged to be at both Ceremonies when it happened. Mark is one of the nicest guys you'll ever find, and a "car guy" through-and-through.
After restoring Ed Roth's "Rotar" and "Road Agent", Mark built his own "bubble top": "The Futurian", he's also currently finishing up the restoration of Bill Cushenberry's "Car Craft Dream Rod".
During the last few years, there has been a resurgence of the iconic "bubble top", first brought into the era of Rods & Customs by the Legendary Darryl Starbird with his "Predicta". And, in this one-on-one Interview, Mark tells Jonnie how Ed "Big Daddy" Roth told him to actually BUILD a "bubble top".
Is it easier than you thought ? Maybe, maybe not...it all depends on hard you really want to build one !
PLUS, take a look below at what could be the VERY first automobile to wear a "bubble top" ! JK
(Above: Could this be the rarest, original "Bubble Top" of all ? Built by George Bartell in Detroit, it was called the "Hollywood Streak" and was based on a '42 Buick. Actually, if you look closely, you'll see that he butted the front-halves of TWO '42 Buicks together ! It was shown in the April, 1946 Issue of Popular Mechanics Magazine.)
